Live Music: Jeff Cramer

  • Bread Bar 1010 Main Street Silver Plume, CO, 80476 (map)

Since the release of his 2019 album Northern 45, Jeff Cramer has been digging into the nooks and crannies of the modern folk genre, establishing himself as a distinctive interrogator of what it means to call America his home. Over the past six years, Jeff’s built a devoted following of folks as curious as he is about what calls us to the broad expanse of the West. A self-described Midwest runaway, Jeff’s passion for the American landscape reveals itself not only in his music but in his devotion to clean energy, of which, when he’s not writing or singing, he’s been a lifelong advocate.

In August 2024, Jeff released Forever Morning, a sprawling musical road-trip through homelands real and imagined, alongside acclaimed producer Andrew Berlin, who also worked on Gregory Alan Isakov’s 2018 album Evening Machines. The album is a buzzy mixture of soft-thrumming acoustics and sunny drumbeats, a sunny dance through the places he has been and the ones he visits often in his mind — with a healthy dose of self-exploration, too. Just a month later, Jeff and a magically slapdash band recorded Live at the Bluebird, a spur-of-the-moment celebration of the music he has spent the better part of a decade crafting with meticulous care. Cramer’s exploration of his folk forefathers and the future of the genre is unique in its warm, trusting insistence: stripped down and revved up, he combs through their storied musical landscape to create music that’s an homage and an evolution.
